For the past 22 years, the WHO Great Iowa Tractor Ride has brought together hundreds of tractor fans for its yearly voyage. Now in its 23rd year, for the first time the voyage began in Council Bluffs.

First the chambers and the access shafts will be backfilled. Then a 30-foot-high berm of rock and tamped earth with a core of salt will be constructed, enclosing the above­-ground footprint of the repository. Buried in the berm and the earth around it will be radar reflectors and magnets, discs made of ceramic, clay, glass, and metal, engraved with warnings: Do Not Dig or Drill. The berm itself will be surrounded by an outer perimeter of 25-foot­-high granite pillars, also bearing warning texts.

“We’ve got the antique and the classics, which would be like your Farmall M, your John Deere two-cylinder tractors and those kinds of tractors — but they are four times the horsepower they started with,” Buhr said.

After four successful years, the Community for Kids Golf Tournament has raised over $62,000 for its three beneficiaries.  Founded by the Penn State Altoona Alumni Society in 2015 as its second fundraising initiative, the impact of the tournament helped establish the Center for Child Justice – a Children’s Advocacy Center in Altoona, provide scholarship support to students in need at Penn State Altoona, and has aided in the purchase of health and wellness services and equipment for Penn State Altoona NCAA Division III Student Athletes.

As much as this blow-by-blow battlemodo shows you all the problems we encountered, the big picture is that really, mobile web is pretty dandy right now, and getting dandier. It could be more reliable, faster, maybe a little more versatile, but for the most part, yes, you can access the internet on your phone. Compared to just two years ago, that’s really saying something. We can’t wait to see what it’ll look like in two years. Maybe Internet Exploder will actually work. Nah, that’s a little too sci-fi.
